Mormugao police on Thursday registered an FIR against social activist Xencor Polgi after he was accused of making derogatory statements against spiritual guru Swami Brahmeshanand.
The complaint filed on Wednesday evening alleged that Polgi had made objectionable remarks about the recent Goa Spiritual Festival organised by the Satguru Foundation at Baina Beach.
The complaint filed by Vasco resident Dilip Kajale claims that Polgi intentionally outraged religious sentiments by using derogatory language against Swami Brahmeshanand and promoting enmity on religious grounds. The complaint also states that Polgi allegedly circulated these statements on social media, potentially disturbing public harmony.
Following the registration of the FIR, a large number of followers gathered at the Mormugao police station on Thursday afternoon, demanding Polgi’s immediate arrest.
Ranesh Fadte, a follower of Brahmeshanad, stated that the Goa Spiritual Festival received immense support and appreciation from both the state and central governments, particularly among the youth.
He accused Polgi of making baseless statements without any religious knowledge, hurting the sentiments of followers. “We filed a complaint on Wednesday, and today demanded his arrest. He may target politicians, but he must not interfere in religious matters. If such actions continue, people will not remain silent,” said Fadte.
PSI Suraj Naik is conducting further investigations under the supervision of PI Dheeraj Devidas and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
