Lays foundation stone for proposed `40-cr Tribal Bhavan project at Porvorim
PORVORIM
Stating that some people are unnecessarily creating obstacles in the development of the State, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said progress will be faster if all join hands.
He was addressing a gathering after unveiling the foundation stone for the proposed Tribal Bhavan at Porvorim, which is being constructed on 2,200 square metres of land at a cost of Rs 40 crore.
Others present at the function organised by the Directorate of Tribal Welfare and Gomantak Goud Maratha Samaj included Tribal Welfare Minister Govind Gaude, Cumbharjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar, former Savordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar and UTTA President Prakash Velip.
Stating that the society and government together can make Goa better, Sawant sought support from all communities to undertake development in the State.
“The Directorate of Tribal Welfare has 24 different schemes for ST community but most are not aware of these. Tribal Welfare Minister Govind Gaude has stated that shops, hostel, library, marriage hall and other facilities at the proposed bhavan would be available exclusively for the tribal communities.”
“Here I would like to make a correction that the marriage hall should be made available to other segments of society also. The money received through the rent of the shops and marriage hall should be utilised for the maintenance of the Bhavan,” said Sawant.
Gaude said it had taken nearly three-and-half years to finalise the Tribal Bhavan.
“Students residing in places like Canacona were finding it difficult to pursue higher studies for want of accommodation in Panaji. Hence, a hostel for both girls and boys has been planned in the Tribal Bhavan,” said Gaude.
The minister said the corporation and commissions connected with the tribal department will be accommodated at the building.
Director of Tribal Welfare department Triveni Velip, Chairman of GSSTEDC Durgadas Gaude, President of GGMS Vishwas Gaude, ex-MLA Vasudev Goankar were also present on the occasion.
