Son wins Navelim ward left vacant by father's demise

Aldrich Gerald  Coelho, son of former Navelim Panchayat member late, Babush Coelho was on Monday elected as a member of Ward No II of Navelim Village Panchayat.

He defeated Jose Francisco Pereira in a closely fought straight contest. While Aldrich polled 211 votes, Pereria polled 186 votes.

After the election, Aldrich told the media that he had decided to contest from Ward No II of the Navelim village panchayat left vacant by the sudden demise of  his father Babush Coelho. “I had decided to contest the by-poll to ward No II of Navelim panchayat after the people of Sinquetim extended their support to me. I was not support by any politician, but by the people of Sinquetim”, he said.

Election for the NavelimZilla Panchayat seat had to be countermanded following the death of Babush Coelho, who was the then congress candidate for the seat. 

Meanwhile, Angelo  JoaoAfonso has won the bye-poll for ward No VII of Assolna Panchayat. While Angelo polled 146 votes, his rival Jayant Arolcar polled 55 votes.
