SANGUEM
After having inaugurated the State’s first Gram Nyayalaya (Village Court) at Valpoi in North Goa, a second such court was inaugurated at Sanguem in South Goa on Thursday.
The Village Court was inaugurated by South Goa District Judge Sherin Paul in the presence of Judge of Sanguem Court Anushka Madkaikar and others. The Village Court will be the first of its kind in South Goa and will be of great assistance to litigants and general public seeking recourse to law from the remote areas of Sanguem taluka as justice will be available at their door steps.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, District Judge Sherin Paul informed that the Gram Nyayalaya at Sanguem will function twice a month and will deal with both civil and criminal matters.
Formed under the Gram Nyayalaya Act 2008, the Village Court will help people unable to travel long distances to seek justice at their door steps. Judge Paul urged the people living in the hinter land areas to take maximum benefits of the Village Court.
Sanguem Court Judge Anushka Madkaikar and President of Sanguem Quepem Advocates Association Sanjit Dessai also spoke on the occasion.
The prime aim behind establishing the Village Court is to provide speedy, affordable dispute resolutions, enhancing legal awareness among people in remote areas and to ensure that no citizen is denied access to justice due to social or economic difficulties.
