Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane today said that the South Goa District Hospital would be upgraded from a district hospital to a tertiary hospital.

He emphasized that the hospital needs to have comprehensive facilities to ensure that they people are not sent to GMC.

He admitted that both the government and he himself have fallen short in delivering adequate healthcare to the region.

Rane plans to chair a high-level meeting with the Chief Minister and propose that the South Goa District Hospital be officially declared a tertiary hospital.

Regarding complaints of illegal hill cutting and plotting, Rane revealed that his department has booked 950 cases, none of which received official permissions. He criticized the perception that the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department, under his oversight, is not effective.

Rane pointed out that significant land conversions happened before his tenure and that the Chief Minister has ordered local officials to address hill cutting issues. However, he noted that he lacks the authority to stop these activities directly.
