After presiding over the hot seat for the last three year and seven months, South Goa Zilla panchayat Chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar will quit office on Thursday as per the directives of BJP leadership.
While Tendulkar will follow the party’s diktat on Thursday, suspense continues in the ruling camp and outside who will succeed the incumbent Chairperson after her resignation.
BJP’s directives not only came as a surprise to the South Goa ZP Chief, but members of the ruling and opposition members of the district Panchayat body. In fact, a non-BJP member Baptista made an appeal to the BJP leadership to do a rethink of the direction issued to Tendulkar, saying the ZP Chief had taken the ruling and opposition members along in the last three years and seven month.
“I will be submitting my resignation to the Director of Panchayats on Thursday as per the directives of the BJP leadership. The party had reposed its trust in me by getting me elected on the post. I am sure I have discharged the responsibility given to me by the party with dedication and commitment”, she said.
Tendulkar further said she has no idea on the name of her successor, saying all she knows for the moment is that the party has told her to submit the resignation.
The ZP Chairperson pointed out that as many as eight Chief Executive Officers, besides four accounts officers, Executive engineers and Assistant engineers were posted by the government at the South ZP body during her stint in office. “Except the CEOs, all these other officials were given additional charge. But, all these shortcomings, we have been able to tender around 517 works. There are still 30-36 development files which are being processed for execution”, she added.
Newly posted ZP CEO Gaurish Sankhwakar, outgoing CEO Florina Colaco, ZP vice-Chairperson Kushali Velip, members, officials and staff participated in the farewell program.
ZP vice-Chairperson Kushalip Velip is also expected to tender his resignation as per the party’s direction.
