In an interesting development, South Goa Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dhania, IPS has ordered a probe into media reports levelling allegations against police officers and the functioning of the police system in South Goa.

The SP has appointed DySP HQ (South) Rajendra Prabhudesai and directed him to conduct a thorough and detailed probe and submit a report to him.

Media reports stated that while some police staff have been working, there were others who were not found on duty. It was also mentioned that different cells have been formed to accommodate selected staff i.e. Election Cell, FIFA Cell etc. and that one of the staffers has been working in such a cell for the last 15 years.

It was further reported that one of the senior officers had spent Rs 80 lakh for the beautification of his official residence and purchased a sofa set of Rs 30 lakh for his official residence, who now stands transferred.

It has been further reported that an officer of the rank of ASI from a Police Station is posted as a special officer by SP (South). It is also mentioned that an official works hardly for two hours a day, draws a salary of Rs 8000 per day and that some officials are avoiding duties at the behest of politicians and under the garb of yoga.

Prima facie, the SP, South is believed to have stated that the media report is deliberately published with misleading and unverified facts to sensationalise and tarnish the image of Goa Police.

The SP, South has said the enquiry shall also reflect the role of police personnel and ministerial staff, if any involved, in such activities for further disciplinary action.
