At a brief function, Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar handed over the clay mixing machines to Ganesh idol artisans Audut Dhuri, Niraj Chari and Raghunath Dhuri of Canacona, in a move to assist Clay Ganesh idol makers.

According to sources, the clay mixing machines have been obtained through the Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (GHRSSIDC), to empower locals artisans to preserve cultural heritage and to enhance their craftsmanship.

After handing over the machines, Tawadkar expressed gratitude to GHRSSIDC Chairman and Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar and GHRSSIDC Managing Director Ajay Gaude for their support in providing the machines.

Speaking at the event, one of the recipients said they had expressed difficulties faced by them in obtaining clay and the inability of getting labour for the clay mixing job. He thanked Tawadkar for immediately making arrangements and getting three clay mixing machines for the needy artisans of Canacona.

It is learnt that the machines can also be used to excavate the clay/mud and use it as a mixer to prepare the clay for the artisan’s idols making works.
