Final preparations are in full swing to get all venues ready in Ponda ahead of the 37th National Games in the State.
The venues in Ponda which have been allotted different games are the Ponda Swimming Pool - Indoor - Ground (Modern Pentathlon), the Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi (Archery) and the Ponda Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium (Taekwondo and Kho-Kho).
Equipment and the materials required for the games have arrived at the site and workers are busy making final preparations.
Painting work has begun in some places which had been hampered due to rains for a few days. Nodal officer, Nilesh Naik and Executive Engineer Deepak Lotlikar along with other officials are supervising ongoing work. There is enthusiasm among government officials as a major sports event is being held for the first time in the area.
Ponda Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashish Shirodkar and Police Inspector Tushar Lotlikar are also reviewing law and order arrangements.
Authorities are taking precautions to avoid any inconvenience to participants at the Games.
It has been learnt through reliable source that accommodation for sportspersons has been arranged in hotels near the venue. Efforts are being made to complete the entire work by October 20.
