With the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda set to play host to the inaugural ceremony of the National Games and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to flag off the Games on October 26, all roads leading to the decades old stadium are set to receive a fresh carpet of hot mix.
That’s not all. A couple of spaces, be it the SGPDA ground, or the SAG ground near the swimming pool or the land owned by the Department of Science and Technology near the district court building, they will be all levelled and developed for vehicular parking ahead of the Games.
Take note, the government is expected to spend a good deal of funds on the road hot mixing works. If sources are to be believed, the PWD, roads may end up in spending over Rs 10 crore to execute the work. Similarly, the PWD, NH has drawn estimates to take up the work of hot-mixing of the two major entry roads to Fatorda.
In fact, the PWD, Roads Division and the PWD, National Highway are bracing up to take up the road works around the stadium, beginning from Sunday. While the national highway is expected to take up the western bypass-wholesale fish market road and the district hospital-KTC road, the road stretches, right from the old market to Arlem or the stadium junction to Ambaji, will get a hot mix coat well before the Games inauguration.
A couple of these road stretches, especially the district hospital-KTC-Old market road has been lying in bad shape over the last couple of months due to the ongoing sewerage laying works.
Similarly, the wholesale fish market road, connecting the city, near the KTC bus stand to the western bypass at the Seraulim junction, was also craving for attention for some time due to the wear and tear.
While the authorities remain tightlipped on security reasons whether Prime Minister Modi will descend at Fatorda via a helicopter or road, sources said the government is gearing up hot mixing of all roads leading to the stadium well before the curtains open for the National Games.
