State targets GER of 50% in higher education by 2035

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday stated that the State has a target to achieve Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) of 50% in higher education by 2035 in line with the NEP 2020.  

He also stated that the Harvard University designed Programme for Scientifically Inspired Leadership (PSIL) marks a new chapter in the history of Goa’s education sector.  

Sawant made the statement while speaking at the concluding function of the five-day PSIL which was organised by Directorate of Higher Education and State Council of Educational Research and Training in collaboration with the President and fellows of Harvard College, USA at Pilar Pilgrim Centre from January 6 to 10.  

“The Government of Goa has entered into ground breaking MoU with Harvard University to conduct education programme to enrich and strengthen public schools in the State. This initiative is specially designed to benefit underprivileged students and is a testament to our commitment towards inclusive education,” Sawant stated.  

“For the first time, a programme of such global standard is being conducted for high school students and teachers from public schools in Goa,” the CM informed and added that such unique initiatives bring cross culture learning rooted in liberal art and scientific philosophy.  

“By facilitating interaction between students, teachers and Harvard mentors, this programme aims to deepen the understanding of teaching and learning,” Sawant added.  

Dr Dominic Mao and Dr Andrea Wright, faculty from Harvard University, Director of Higher Education Bhushan Sawaikar, and Advisor to CMO Charudatta Panigrahi also spoke on the occasion.  

Some of the students who participated in the programme gave their testimonies on how tit helped them.  

Education Secretary Prasad Lolienkar, Director of Education Shailesh Zingade and others were also present at the event.
