Strolls, selfies, spectacular scenes and even serenaders were some of the highlights at the new Zuari bridge, which was thrown open to pedestrians between December 25 and 28.

It all began when Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the new Zuari bridge would be opened for pedestrians without vehicular movement from December 25 to 28 between 5 pm and 8 pm, to enable people click pictures for photography purposes and to get a breathtaking view from the bridge, before it is formally inaugurated for motor vehicles by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on December 29.

Following the announcement by Sawant, several hundreds of people from various parts of the State have been visiting the bridge during the specified time, with many clicking photos and selfies of the spectacular scenery, some playing music and singing songs.

A makeshift stall which sells snacks, chips, water, tea and coffee has also been set up on the bridge, considering the rush of the people

Speaking to media, the stall owners said the stall was set up for 4 days with permission from DBL the contractor of the bridge.

"We have a huge rush of people here and we are getting a large number of customers. Permission were given to set up two stalls but the other person has not turned up as yet and we are the only stall present here. A lot of people who walk on the bridge come to our stall after clicking pictures," said the stall owner.

Another person who had arrived on the bridge hailed the BJP for constructing the new Zuari bridge.

"We have come here causally for a walk and we must say that this bridge is excellent and we must thank the BJP for this. We have shot pictures and enjoyed a breathtaking view from the bridge," said the person.

A group of friends were seen playing a guitar and singing songs.

"We decided to come on the bridge and we carried our guitar along with us. We found the environment very pleasant here and we were inspired to sing a song and all the people joined us. We are now a huge group of happy people at this location on the bridge," said the person.
