New Vaddem experienced a dramatic incident late Thursday night when strong winds and heavy rains dislodged the roofing sheets, channels, and rods from a house belonging to John Rodrigues. The debris flew off and landed on neighboring houses, causing significant damage and injuring one resident.

Municipal councilor Yatin Kamurlekar speaking to media said that the incident occurred around 11:30 PM.

"There was strong wind, and people suddenly heard a huge noise, but people were not sure of what it was. When they came out, we realised that the roofing sheets, along with the channels and rods, were flying and finally landed on different houses. One rod even penetrated into another house and missed injuring the residents who were having their food,"said Kamurlekar.

"The damage was extensive, with several roofs in the area affected. A senior citizen suffered a minor injury when a roofing tile struck her head. She was promptly taken to the hospital, where she received four stitches. Upon learning of the incident, I rushed to the scene to coordinate the response. I immediately called the Fire Brigade, the electricity department, and disaster management. The electrical wires had fallen, and there was no electricity. We got the department to carry out the repairs and restore the power supply. We called for an ambulance to transport the injured lady to the hospital and the fire brigade to clear the area. The Talathi and other members of disaster management were also called to assess the losses." Said Kamurlekar

"The coordinated efforts of all the agencies ensured the area was quickly cleared and secured. The police were involved to ensure order and assist in the disaster response. Residents of New Vaddem are now recovering from the shock and assessing the damage to their properties. The prompt response from local authorities and emergency services was crucial in managing the situation and preventing further harm." Added Kamurlekar.
