Suleman being escorted back Goa; wife to also face arrest in land fraud case

The police team escorting Suleman Siddiqui, also known as Suleman Khan, is set to arrive in Goa, where he will be formally arrested and interrogated. Siddiqui, who was detained in Kerala last Saturday evening, is facing 13 charges against him.

Addressing a press conference at police headquarters today, Director General of Police Alok Kumar said the police team are escorting Suleman back and are expected to reach Goa shortly.

SP Crime Branch Rahul Gupta disclosed that Siddiqui’s wife will also be arrested concerning a land fraud case in Mapusa. Suleman was found hiding at his place in Kerala from where his wife Afsana was also detained.

During the search operations, police seized crucial evidence from his residence -- 16 passbooks, multiple Aadhaar cards, 12  phones, 30 cheque books, multiple ration cards, sale deeds and stamp pads linked to certain companies.

The investigation also revealed that Siddiqui had changed locations eight times in Karnataka and Kerala during his escape across nine days.

"After a tip-off from our side, we alerted the Ernakulam (Kerala) Police who managed to detain him. He was with his wife at the time," said SP Gupta.

The Goa police had deployed 14 teams comprising over 70 police personnel to trace Sukeman.

Amit Naik, a former IRB constable, has confessed to aiding Siddiqui’s escape from custody and dropping him off in Hubli, Karnataka.

Siddiqui and his wife are expected to face additional charges as the investigation into the land fraud case unfolds. Both will be formally arrested and interrogated upon their return to Goa. Further scrutiny of the videos involving Siddiqui will also be conducted to determine their authenticity.
