Barely a year into his induction in the ‘disciplined force,’ Rajat Adpaikar -- now under suspension -- is caught in a controversy of his own making. Riding high on his bullet bike without a helmet, Adpaikar was not just flouting basic traffic rules but was also allegedly flaunting his disregard for duty.
The buckle number 9009 constable had left his workplace – Mormugao police station -- without permission from his superiors on the day when he had a bizarre clash with an assistant traffic sub-inspector on Banastarim bridge.
Sources confirmed to The Goan that Adpaikar, often seen wearing a conspicuous gold chain, was deployed on night patrol duty from 8 pm on September 10 to 8 am on September 11. Although he completed his shift, the probationary cop failed to report back to his superiors and left the police station without notifying anyone.
“The entire force is aware of the additional duty required for Ganesh Chaturthi and any festival including the peak tourist season. Despite this, he left after his night duty without permission and without reporting for routine duty,” a senior officer revealed.
Having completed his training at the Delhi Police Training Academy, which senior officers in Goa boasted is reputed to offer more advanced training than the Police Training School (PTS) in Valpoi, Adpaikar already gave indications of violations.
South SP Sunita Sawant confirmed to The Goan that Adpaikar's suspension following the assault was also due to his dereliction of duty. “He was indeed on duty, but he left the premises without informing his superiors. He has been suspended for misconduct and dereliction of duty,” Sawant explained.
The SP has appointed a police inspector to conduct a disciplinary inquiry into the matter besides investigation into FIR registered by Mardol police on September 11 night. “The preliminary inquiry has commenced,” Sawant added.
