TAG announces lifetime achievement   awards for 10 noted tiatr artists

In commemoration of the birth anniversary of Pai Tiatrist, the late Joao Agostinho Fernandes, the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) has announced its prestigious lifetime achievement awards, recognising the exceptional contributions of ten prominent tiatr artists who have significantly enriched Goan tiatr stage.

Addressing the media, TAG President Anthony Barbosa said the awardees are categorised into Commercial and Non-Commercial sections.

In the commercial category, artists that have been honoured include Domingos Coelho (Comedian Domnic). A well-known figure in the tiatr community, Domnic has written, directed, and produced 17 tiatrs, with three of them published in book form.

Xec Amirodin alias Shaikh Amir – A talented mimic and actor, Shaikh Amir made his debut in 1985 and has written and directed several tiatrs, showcasing his versatility in the art form.

Xavier M. Fernandes alias Paklo – A musician who began his journey in 1980, Xavier has been a key part of many tiatr productions, contributing as a drummer and performer.

Jaikisan Dharmu Naik alias Kissan de Chinchinim – A prolific playwright and actor, Kissan has written 25 tiatrs and contributed to the Konkani entertainment industry in various ways.

Samuel Carvalho – Known for his impactful acting, Samuel has written and directed 17 tiatrs and has made a significant mark on the tiatr stage.

In the Non-Commercial category, individuals elected for the prestigious awards, which are given in memory of late Lucasinho Rebeiro are Jose Antonio Pereira alias JP – An influential figure with a career spanning decades, JP has written over 1,000 cantaram and tiatr scripts.

Peter V. Fernandes – A veteran of the tiatr scene since 1968, Peter has contributed significantly as a writer, director, and performer.

Jose M F de J N Barreto alias Juju – Starting at a young age, Juju has been a prominent figure in the tiatr and Konkani music scenes.

Pedro Colaco – A dedicated actor, writer, and organizer, Pedro has been a significant contributor to Konkani theatre since 1976.

Francis Fernandes – With a deep connection to music, Francis has performed in over 50 tiatrs and songs, becoming an influential figure in the Goan cultural landscape.

Barbosa said the award presentation function will take place on December 14, 2024, at Pai Tiatrist Hall, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, at 3:30 PM. The event will coincide with the birth anniversary of Pai Tiatrist Joao Agustinho Fernandes and is organized in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan-Margao.

He said Hema Sardesai, renowned singer, will be the Chief Guest, with Sagun Velip, Director of the Art and Culture Department, as the Guest of Honour. Special invitees include Domingos Araujo, Rajendra Talak, and Sharmila Fernandes, granddaughter of late Joao Agostinho Fernandes.

A special Konkani musical show will also be held, featuring performances from famous Konkani singers, with Norman Cardozo and his troupe providing the musical backdrop.
