The Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) has expressed its appreciation for the recent statement made by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who called on the Sahitya Akademi in New Delhi to consider tiatr script books for the prestigious national literary awards.
At the 38th Goa’s Official Language Day function, organised by the Goa Konkani Academy, the Chief Minister highlighted the rich literary value of tiatr scripts, a vital aspect of Goa’s culture and heritage. He also emphasised that the State government is making concerted efforts to take tiatr to a global stage.
He had also stressed that the government is working tirelessly to take tiatr to global audiences.
Anthony Barbosa, President of Tiatr Academy of Goa, lauded the Chief Minister’s support for the tiatr community. “Tiatr has a rich heritage that spans nearly 133 years. Several books on tiatr scripts have already been published, and it would be a proud moment if these works are recognized with Sahitya Akademi awards at the national level. The Tiatr Academy remains fully committed to encouraging tiatr writers to publish their scripts in book form,” Barbosa remarked.
Barbosa also revealed that a recent meeting with the Chief Minister had focused on the Tiatr Academy’s plans to promote tiatr on the global stage.
Marcos Gonsalves, Vice-President of TAG, stressed the importance of recognising the literary value of tiatr scripts at the national level.
