Eupsiquio Eusebio Antonio Ligorio Fernandes

The Tiatr Academy of Goa deeply mourns the passing of the popular and legendary tiatrist Eupsiquio Eusebio Antonio Ligorio Fernandes, fondly known as Ligorio Fernandes.
An acclaimed writer, director, and producer on the Konkani stage, Ligorio Fernandes was one of the most prominent figures in the world of tiatr. Renowned for his powerful religious and socially-themed productions, Ligorio was a name synonymous with quality and depth in Konkani tiatr stage. His work resonated deeply with tiatr-loving audiences across Goa.
Born in 1939 in Benaulim, Ligorio Fernandes developed a deep love for Konkani and tiatr from a young age. After completing his SSC, he began working early in life but remained devoted to his passion for the stage. Over his prolific career, he wrote and directed more than 30 tiatrs and khell-tiatrs, leaving an indelible mark on the art form.
Some of his most notable tiatrs include Krimidor, Fottkiri Axea, Ekach Karonnak Lagon, Hanv Nhoim Tem, Noxibantlem, Judas, Papi, and Julius Caesar. His khell-tiatrs such as Jivea Devacho Put, Jezu Sorvonnddar, Jezu-Vatt, Sot ani Jivit, and Jezuchea Pavlamni Cholum-ia were also well-received and appreciated for their spiritual and moral depth.
Ligorio Fernandes was also a contributor to Konkani audio culture, having produced several CDs and cassettes, including Mhojea Patkak Sojea. His contributions earned him numerous awards and recognitions for his commitment to promoting and enriching Konkani theatre.
Anthony Barbosa, President of the Tiatr Academy of Goa, expressed deep sorrow at Ligorio's passing, stating, "The tiatr fraternity has lost one of its legendary artists. Ligorio’s contributions to the Konkani stage were truly remarkable. He was an inspiration to many budding writers and directors. He was a true gentleman who always supported the tiatr artists. May his soul rest in peace"
The Tiatr Academy of Goa extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and admirers. Ligorio Fernandes’s legacy will live on through the stories he told and the impact he made on Konkani tiatr stage.
