The South Goa District Collector, Egna Cleetus, has ordered Compulsory Retirement for Talathi Jerry Fernandes, effective from 1 April 2025.
The decision was taken under Rule 11 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965.
According to the order, Jerry Fernandes will still be eligible for pension and gratuity, if allowed under the rules.
The Collector’s decision relates to a 2014 case in which Fernandes was accused of taking a bribe to speed up a mutation entry. “Allowing him to continue in service would set a bad example and may encourage similar behaviour. There is a risk that he could repeat such misconduct. In other similar cases, officers have either been dismissed or compulsorily retired under Article 311(2) of the Constitution of India. In my view, based on the clear and strong evidence of bribery, this is an appropriate case for Compulsory Retirement,” the Collector said in the order.
