The Tamnar project would fulfill Goa’s requirement of electricity for the next 20 years, stated Arun Sharma, CEO (Infrastructure Business) at Sterlite Power on Friday.
Sharma was speaking at a programme ‘Tum Bhi Chalo, Hum Bhi Chale’ initiated by Prudent Media and Goa Tamnar Transmission Project Limited (GTPPL) in the presence of Governor of Goa P S Sreedharan Pillai, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, GTPPL’s Ninad Pitale and choreographer Mamta Hussain.
Sharma further stated that Goa’s current requirement of power is around 600–700-megawatt. “Once the Tamnar project commences Goa will receive minimum 1200-megawatt power. Hence, Goa would not face power crunch in the next 15-20 years. Tamnar project would offer green energy to Goa. This would connect Karnataka’s Akshay Urjaa hubs to Goa. This project would be seeing the light of the day in the next 15-18 months. Goa would get an opportunity to receive 100% green energy then,” he said.
Stating that we wish to work for the better future of the State of Goa, Sharma added that the project aims at taking the locals of the land ahead, together. “Currently, our country imports oil, petrol, diesel, etc from other countries, and spends around Rs 900,000 crore annually. If the power requirement of the nation is fulfilled through the resources within our nation, we would be saving this huge amount. That’s why we require projects like Tamnar. It is more difficult to reach the green energy to each household, than to produce it. We have shouldered this responsibility through Tamnar,” said Sharma.
The programme began with various performances of the Divyang children from Ashadeep School, Sanjay School, and Disha School under the guidance of choreographer Mamta Hussain.
“Special children are equally talented like any other children and if guided appropriately, they also can do wonderful things,” said Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai.
