In an unusual challenge which has reignited the politicalrivalry within the party, BJP State vice-president and former minister RameshTawadkar has said the impact of Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes and hissupporters in both ZP polls at Canacona will only by felt if 70-80% of votespolled are secured by party candidates.
Addressing a news conference at Chaudi-Canacona onWednesday, Tawadkar said the party is so strong in all 57 booths in both Kholaand Poinguinim ZP constituencies that they would easily ensure the success ofboth BJP candidates, Shanu Velip (Khola) and Shobana Velip (Poinguinim).
“Barring my deviation from the party only briefly when Icontested as independent in the last assembly polls, my interaction with partyvoters has been coordinated by holding 3-phase meetings.”
“This is my strategy to keep the party strong amongvoters. I need not attend corner meetings presently being convened by party MLAIsidore Fernandes to mobilise support to the party candidates in both Khola andPoinguinim constituencies,” justified Tawdakar.
“Fernandes and his supporters have never voted for theparty and now, since the MLA is working to get votes for the party, his successcan be measured only if both candidates secure 70-80% of the votes polled atthe Khola and Poinguinim ZP elections.”
“While our former MLA Vijay Poi Khot is also working forthe success of the party, the strength and influence of Isidore will only beknown if he can secure votes of his supporters for the BJP candidates,” addedTawadkar.
Tawadkar was accompanied by Shristhal Sarpanch DattaGaonkar, former Shristhal sarpanch Ganesh Gaonkar and a panch from Gaondongrimpanchayat.
