Guess who this artist is, found seated on the 118-year-old heritage Margao Municipal building, dedicated to drawing the façade of the imposing structure? Well, meet Telangana’s Travelling Artist, Alpula Pocham, who descended upon the commercial capital as part of his Kala Yatra, which he initiated from Kashmir in 2017 and plans to conclude at Kanyakumari.

Having traversed approximately 20 states since the commencement of his Kala Yatra in 2017, this postgraduate fine arts student has executed over 15,000 live drawings of the cities and villages he visited in the last six years.

After spending the last 12 days in Goa, Alpula states that the objective behind his Kala Yatra is to showcase Bharat and its diverse culture, languages, etc., through live drawings. “I have encountered diverse cultures, languages, and people during my yatra across the states. I have witnessed different costumes as I travelled from one state to another. Their food habits also varied from state to state,” he said.

Expressing his intention to conclude his yatra by visiting the remaining states, including Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Alpula disclosed plans to compile a book containing thousands of live drawings and offer the books to universities for ready reference by students.
