MARGAO
Peace in the Aquem locality of the commercial capital was shattered after armed assailants tried to settle a property dispute by threatening a man with a gun just a few metres away from a school early Wednesday morning.

In the ensuing scuffle, the complainant Kunal Raikar, a resident of Fatorda sustained simple injuries, while the magazine of the firearm along with rounds fell on the ground. As a lady, who was heading to the school to drop her child, raised an alarm, the assailants, numbering around three, including one wearing a mask, fled away in the Maruti Suzuki Omni van.

The incident occurred between 8 am to 8.15 am when Kunal was returning back to his four-wheeler after dropping his child at the Baby Blossom school. The three assailants who were lying in wait near the school in the Maruti van, restrained Kunal, while one of the unknown accused tried to abduct him at gun point. As the assailants tried to force him into the said vehicle, a scuffle ensued between the complainant and the accused wherein Kunal sustained simple injury. The police have taken in their possession the magazine of the firearm along with rounds which were found at the place of the incident.

In his complaint, the complainant has named a suspect saying the suspect must have done the act for his personal gain.

Preliminary investigations by the Margao Police have revealed that the motive of the incident is believed to be over previous enmity over a property dispute.

While condemning the incident, Prabhav has demanded an inquiry into the incident. “Aquem area in Margao was always a peaceful place. Today’s incident has exposed that law and order situation in Goa is bad and criminals are operating freely. I hope police will act fast and nab all those involved,” said Naik.
