The National Games has not only helped in sprucing up the stadiums in the State, but also helped in putting some infrastructure works in place.
In Mapusa, the sprawling space behind the new KTC bus-stand which was occupied by migrants has been cleared overnight and the whole area has received a cleanup, courtesy the National Games.
The open space behind the bus-stand has been made ready ostensibly to allow parking for vehicles which will be transporting the sportsmen participating in the games.
Not very long ago, the migrants had taken control of the entire open space behind the new bus-stand and had made the place their home by building temporary huts in the area.
A week back, the area was cleared from the migrants and a JCB was used to flatten and clear the sprawling area.
KTC General Manager Sanjay Ghate informed that the corporation will soon tender the area for pay parking.
“For the moment, the place is being cleared for parking of vehicles that will be used to transport people attending the National Games,” Ghate said.
Although the property belongs to the KTC, the migrants had occupied the entire area and made it their home for the last several months, if not years. People living in that migrant colony were involved in petty crimes and created a law and problem in the area and in town.
An activist who doubles up as youtube enthusiast, Shekar Naik, had done several videos on the migrants settled in the area.
