Staff from The Goan Everyday, Prudent TV, Goan Varta bagged three journalism awards declared by the Goa Union of Journalists for 2021 and 2022.
Vibha Verma of The Goan Everyday received the award for excellence in crime journalism for her report ‘Probe reveals how land grab accused forged documents…’. (2022), while Loukik Shilkar of Prudent TV bagged the award for excellence in TV/digital journalism for his report ‘Tons of medical & plastic waste burnt in the open near GMC’ (2021). Ajay Lad of Goan Varta won the award for excellence in rural journalism for his report ‘Due to lockdown, construction professionals became farmers’ (2021).
All three judges – veteran journalist Sandesh Prabhudesai, veteran photojournalist Sandeep Naik and veteran journalist Rajendra Dessai – attended the programme and announced the winners.
The judges explained in detail why each award-winning entry was selected. Participants also described the story behind their winning and non-winning entries, paving for a healthy interactive session between the judges and participants.
The Awards will be presented during the 46th GUJ Foundation Day celebrations on July 26, at 3.30 pm, at the Institute Menezes Braganza in Panaji.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and Director of Information and Publicity Dipak Bandekar will attend the event.
