VASCO
Jewellery, cash or vehicles are usually the preferred objects of theft, but a group of thieves in Vasco appeared to have valued greenery and stole plants from a roadside nursery in Vasco on Friday night.
The thieves are reported to have stolen fruit-bearing, flower-bearing and other saplings, while the huge umbrella used by the owner was also stolen from a roadside nursery.
Speaking to reporters, nursery owner Pasannajeet Burman said around 15-20 saplings were stolen from his nursery outside the Mormugao Municipal Council building.
"The incident has caused me losses of around Rs 6,000 to 7,000 but that is not the concern. The incident has hurt me because someone chose to steal the plants that we keep open for growth.”
“Had anyone liked the plants and did not have the money, I could have given it to him at a cheaper rate or even for free. The thieves even stole the umbrella I was using for the shade," said Burman.
"At the nursery, we have a bond with the plants and take great care of them just like a parent would do for a child. This incident has pained me but I will not file a police complaint but instead appeal to the thieves to take good care of the stolen plants," Burman added.
