The three-day Budget Session of the Goa Legislative Assembly is set to commence from March 24.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who holds the Finance Portfolio, will place the State Financial Statement cum State Budget 2025-26 on March 26 and will seek Vote on Account for four months. Budget would be passed during the monsoon session in July.
Total 728 questions have been raised by the MLAs for the three-day session of which 180 are starred questions while another 548 are unstarred.
The House will witness discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address, which was delivered on February 6. The discussion will take place for two-days with the Chief Minister’s reply slated for Tuesday.
On Monday, the government will introduce three bills --The Goa State Research Foundation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, The Goa Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and The Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) (Goa Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The Opposition parties have criticised the government over the short tenure of the budget session. The Opposition led by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao held a meeting on Thursday, to chalk out a strategy to corner the government on issues like job scam, law and order, financial mismanagement, unemployment, etc.
Opposition is expected to raise the issue concerning commencement of the academic year in April as well the decision to lease out Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium to private player for a period of ten years.
Meanwhile, the North Collector has prohibited assembly and gathering of five or more persons and taking out or organizing of processions, carrying or firearms or weapons of offences, the use of loudspeakers, the shouting of slogans and burning of fire within the radius of 500 meters around the Assembly Complex at Porvorim with effect from Monday.
