Tiatrists hail global reach of tiatr,   pay rich tributes to Pai Tiatrist

Ravindra Bhavan, Margao Chairman Rajendra Talak led tiatrist and staff of the cultural institution in paying tributes to the Father of Tiatr, Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes on Tuesday on the occasion of his 76th death anniversary.

While paying his tributes, Talak recalled that Pai Tiatrist had laid the foundation for tiatr, which have evolved over the years. He added: “Tiatr has not only protected the rich cultural heritage but occupies a special place in the art and culture of the State. Tiatr is now popular all over the world and has made an immense contribution to Konkani and culture”.

On the occasion, the Ravindra Bhavan Chairman suggested to the Tiatr fraternity to stage a free tiatr on the occasion of Pai Tiatrist death anniversary in the future,  saying the institution will provide the auditorium free of cost. “The next generation has to come in and take up the responsibility to take Tiatr to greater heights. We have to give them confidence”, Talak.

Talak said that Ravindra Bhavan has started the work of resolving the issues that has been plaguing the institution, saying more changes will be seen in the coming days.

In his address, noted tiatrist Prince Jacob said  Tiatr has shown substantial growth and have travelled not only in India but also abroad.  “It was Pai Tiatrist who had shown the road how to go about staging Tiatr before the stage form of art reached the present level”, he said.

Acknowledging the support promised by Ravinda bhavan Chairman to tiatrists, Prince Jacob said the Prince Jacob Production is  ready to tie up with the cultural institution to start workshops for script writing for songs.

Noted tiatr director John Fernandes said tiatrists are  today welcomed internationally, specially in European countries such as UK, Germany etc, adding that this could be possible only because of Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes. 

On thie occasion, Pai Tiatrist’s granddaughter Sharmila Fernandes and his great grandson Sunny Fernandes were present along with Vice Chairman Manohar Borkar, committee members and staff.
