PANAJI:

Over half-a-dozen Goa civil service officers got an on-field lowdown on farming and fisheries technologies developed at the ICAR institute at Ella, Old Goa.

The orientation programme was organised jointly by the Goa Institute of Rural Development and Administration and the ICAR, aimed at imparting to the bureaucrats the knowledge about the agriculture and fisheries technologies which ICAR has developed.

The seven bureaucrats were shown the various research and experimental units at the institute -- the rice block, integrated farming systems, pond fish culture, ornamental fish culture, animal units and the fodder block.

The bureaucrats were also practically shown the fertilizer aeration through the drone-based nano-urea application in the rice block.

Sources said more such orientation programmes are planned for a cross section of Goa's bureaucrats, many of who are and will be deployed in rural areas and departments such as agriculture and fisheries.
