Tourists jam Canacona for NY, Palolem bears brunt of traffic

CANACONA

A heavy rush of tourists crammed the beaches at Palolem, Agonda, Galgibaga, Polem and Khola, as people flocked to Canacona’s coast to usher in the New Year.

According to sources, all hotels and rooms along the entire Canacona coastline were fully booked on Friday, as several visitors were seen looking out for accommodations.

Canacona’s most popular beach at Palolem bore the brunt of traffic jams along the lone and narrow road to the beach.

If getting to the beach was a major challenge, finding parking space was another hurdle as numerous visitors and tourists arrived in their vehicles but found it difficult to locate parking facilities, given the few open spaces and limited parking slots.

With the main parking lot at the Palolem beach entrance barely able to accommodate about 20 vehicles, tourists were forced to park their vehicles nearly 1.5 km away and walk a distance to reach the beach.

Many tourists decided to park their cars on the outskirts of the beaches and rent out bikes to enable them to move around different beaches in the taluka.

Agonda beach was also filled with tourists and visitors, with hotels reporting full occupancy on Friday.

Several parties and midnight revelries were scheduled to take place in most restaurants, resorts along Canacona’s coast, beginning from Cabo-de-Rama in Khola, Agonda, Palolem-Ourem-Colomb-Patnem-Rajbhag, Galgibaga and Polem to welcome the New Year 2022.
