Traditional art, culture and sport will be showcased at the three-day traditional 24th Lokotsav at Adarsh Gram, Amone, Poinguinim, Canacona from December 6 to 8.
“Goan rural folk traditions from last 100-200 years has been showcased at every Lokotsav since the last 23years, and the 24th Lokosthav would continue to do so,” said Speaker and Adarsh Yuwa Sangh President Ramesh Tawadkar, while addressing a news conference.
He informed that the three-day festival will showcase several events and activities, involving children from pre-primary to college.
A State-level science project competition cum exhibition, adventure activity, special attraction, traditional handicraft exhibition, local ayurvedic medicine exhibition, traditional food items sale, traditional roots exhibition and sale, folk dance from Western Zone culture, folk dance presentation by national artist and a Fugdi presentation are also among the events planned at the festival.
“Goa is undoubtedly known the world over as the beach destination, but only 20% of Goa’s culture, beauty and tradition is found on beaches. The remaining 80% of actual, real and traditional Goa lies in the rural hinterland of our State,” said Tawadkar.
The Lokotsav will also feature rural sports, national games, competitions, adventure and water sports, while artistes from several other states will showcase their traditional avenues and methods.
He informed that registration of 4,000 volunteers from Pernem to Polem for the Lokotsav is in its final stages.
Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari will be among the many union and state ministers to grace the festival, while other leaders include the union minister of state for tribal welfare, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister Shripad Naik, MPs, and MLAs from all over the country.
