Truck plunges into Chorla Ghat, causes Rs 30 lakh loss

A goods truck fell into the Chorla Ghat area between Goa and Karnataka on Saturday night, resulting in losses estimated at Rs 30 lakh. Firefighters promptly reached the scene and managed to save property worth Rs 10 lakh.  
The driver escaped unhurt by jumping out of the vehicle in time. The incident occurred on the Goa-Belagavi route as the truck was travelling from Belagavi to Goa.  
According to reports, a tyre burst while the vehicle was passing through the Chorla Ghat area, causing the driver to lose control. The truck veered towards the edge of a cliff. Sensing the imminent danger, the driver quickly jumped out before the truck plunged into the gorge.  
The truck caught fire after the fall, leading to significant damage. Fire brigade officials estimate the losses at around Rs 30 lakh, with severe damage to the front and other sections of the vehicle. Upon receiving the emergency call, Valpoi fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and successfully extinguished the fire.  
Firefighters under the guidance of Constable Satish Naik, along with team members Ashok Naik, Kalidas Gaonkar, and Gokuldas Degvekar, played a key role in controlling the fire and minimising further damage.
