In yet another twist to the “rape” of a 25-year-old woman from Karnataka, the “victim” woman has on Tuesday claimed she was not raped by anyone, but she made a false claim that she was raped by three persons in an intoxicated state since she wanted to go back to her native place.
Addressing the media in the presence of women’s rights activist, Auda Viegas at the NGO’s office on Tuesday, the woman, who had come to Margao from Karnataka on March 15 to work as a care giver to an elderly couple in their 90s and 80s at Comba-Margao, claimed that she was in an intoxicated state after consuming tobacco and chuna (lime). She further claimed that she did not lodge a complaint with the police, adding the complaint with the police was lodged by a lady despite being repeatedly told that she has not been raped.
“I had consumed tobacco and had an overdose on Sunday evening and woke up at around 8 pm. Since I wanted to go home since I remembered my child and family, I lied to the lady on the road that three men had sexually assaulted me. I did not know that my false claim of rape would create a big commotion and a row,” she said.
She added: “I am a mother of a child and how can I level a charge of rape against anyone when I was not raped. That was the reason why I was insisting with the lady not to lodge a complaint.”
Questions, however remains unanswered how come the woman got home sick just a day after she arrived in the State to work as a care giver. That’s not all. The woman, as per the statement made by women’s rights activist Auda Viegas, is not new to Goa, having worked in the State as a care giver during the COVID-19 pandemic.
No medical examination conducted
While the “rape” of the 25-year-old woman has come under the scanner of citizens, the woman, who had initially claimed to have been raped by three persons, has not yet been subjected to medical examination till date.
The first time the woman was taken to the South Goa district hospital by a 108 ambulance on late Sunday night after she claimed sexual abuse by three persons, she was not medically examined at the hospital since the police did not come with a memo.
The second time the woman was taken to the district Hospital on Monday, she denied having been sexually abused.
Women’s right activist, Auda Viegas said the doctor maintained that the woman cannot be medically examined since the supplementary report says no rape. “The woman was examined for other things. But, no gynaecology medical took place because the supplementary report says no rape,” she added.
Auda said the woman found an alibi to return home after she remembered her child and hence cooked up the story of rape in an intoxicated state. After we returned from the district hospital, we took the woman to lanes of Comba just to find out the place where she was sexually assaulted, but she denied of the rape,” Auda said.
She added: “The woman is not a victim of rape, but is like any other citizen. She is a care giver to the elderly having worked in a hospital in Goa during the COVID. She came down to Margao on Saturday through an agency supply care givers. After she arrived at the Margao KTC bus stand, she was picked and dropped at the elderly couple’s home by a person from the agency.
Auda clarified that she is not supporting the police, saying the police from Margao and Fatorda were drafted for investigations once the woman made a claim of rape by three persons.
