Two tourist huts in Agonda  razed in short-circuit fire

Two tourist huts were destroyed in a short-circuit fire at a busy locality at  Agonda beach on Sunday evening.

According to Fire Services sources, both huts were occupied by tourists, but both the inmates escaped and alongwith resort staff  removed their belongings.  The fire, which initially engulfed one hut spread to the other hut was extinguished and brought under control by the resort's staff and locals before the arrival of the fire tender. 

The roofs of both the huts consisting of plastic, coconut leaves and PVC fibre-sheets and electrical appliances including AC’s were completely destroyed, leaving the walls made out of cement sheets intact.   According to Canacona Fire Services, a call was received at 16.45 hours on Sunday evening that two huts were up in flames.

However, when the Fire Personnel reached the site the fire was already extinguished and brought under control. Fire services sources stated that Short-circuit in the air conditioner unit in one of the huts had caused the fire. However, they informed that the loss is not yet estimated as plastics, coconut leaves and PVC (fibre) sheets were used to erect the tourist huts.

The fire team was lead by firemen Prashant Velip and Molu Velip, Driver-Cum-Operator Sanjay Jadhav, firemen Gautam Velip, Prathik Gaonkar, Prashant Dessai.
