Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Tuesday projected the upcoming Baina Power House project as a revenue-generating initiative for the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC)

Salkar was speaking to the media after he along with MMC Chairperson Girish Borker and Ward Councillor Deepak Naik inspected the ongoing construction work of the Baina Power House project.

Speaking to the media, MLA Salkar said the construction is progressing well, with foundation works nearly complete and expected to be finalised by January-end.

“Following this, we plan to add a slab every two months, aiming for full completion by March 2026,” he said.

The Vasco MLA said the Rs 18-crore project will include commercial halls, offices, shops, a restaurant, and more, enhancing the financial stability of the MMC.

"This project will not only strengthen the MMC financially but also enable timely salary disbursements and allow for the recruitment of more staff. Additionally, the relocation of earlier stalls to this building and the addition of frontage shops will provide sustainable growth for Baina, an area that was previously neglected," Salkar added.

Salkar also announced plans for other development projects in Baina, including redevelopment of Baina Garden which was only awaiting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Navy, renovation of Baina Fish Market funded under MLALAD, improvements to roads and drainage systems which was aimed at giving the area a complete facelift.

"Baina is poised for transformation with these projects, which will significantly increase its value and uplift its infrastructure," Salkar remarked.

Apologising to residents for disruptions caused by road digging, Salkar assured that contractors had been directed to expedite their work.

"Once the underground cabling is completed, we will repair footpaths and roads, further beautifying Vasco," he explained.

Among the upcoming initiatives, Salkar announced the inauguration of the long-pending new fish market complex, followed by the commencement of the Chief Officer’s Bungalow project and other vital city projects.
