Urgent need to fight human trafficking: Goa police

PANAJI: Goa Police have conceded that human trafficking remains one of the most serious violations of human rights globally, and called for collective responsibility to combat the menace. 


"Human trafficking is a serious violation of human rights and is a global issue and all of us have a role to assist in tackling it.l," SP Tikam Singh Verma (IPS) said while flagging off a rally to commemorate National Human Trafficking Awareness Day in the capital city today. 


NGO Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN-Goa) in collaboration with Goa Police, Women Police Station, Anti Human Trafficking Unit- Panaji, organised the rally to raise awareness about the critical issue of human trafficking, and to emphasize the importance of prevention and protection of vulnerable sections of our community and victim support.


The theme for this year is: Connecting the Dots. Strengthening Communities. Preventing Trafficking. 


The rally had around 200 participants comprising students from the educational institutions such as VVM's Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao, Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Margao, & V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, along with police personnel and staff of SCAN-Goa, symbolizing a united stand against human trafficking. 


The march commenced from Police Head Quarters, Panaji and proceeded via Urban Health Centre, Panaji, Church Square, concluding at Panaji Bus Stand.
