Use rapport with govt to complete projects: Almeida to Salkar

VASCO

Former Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Thursday said the newly-elected BJP MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar should use his rapport with the State government and complete projects pending in the Vasco constituency.

Almeida also listed out around 17 development works that were initiated by him along with the status as a ready reckoner for Salkar to follow up.

"Development works should be a continuous process wherein the new MLA can consult the ex-MLA on pending development works and follow up accordingly. Side by side, Salkar can take up new development accordingly, and I hope Salkar will use his rapport with the new BJP government to take the projects forward for the betterment of Vasco,” Almeida told reporters.

Almeida said he was willing to help Salkar, if needed, for the sake of Vasco and that he was even willing to come to government offices for any meeting regarding the projects.

"I have to accept my defeat gracefully and hand over the mantle to Salkar who has won the election battle. The major works have to be completed, and I have listed out the projects so that he knows about the status and concept behind the projects. Many work orders have been issued and some are almost on tendering stage.”

“Salkar blamed me for lack of development, but the fact is the development was sabotaged by the government. I had proposed various projects and even written letters, but the government did not support me," said Almeida.

The projects which have been listed along with status and percentage of work done included the ultra-modern bus stand, transport hub, Vasco fish market, hotmixing of roads, shifting of high tension and low tension lines, Vasco Church road realignment and beautification, proposed walking track cum football ground opposite Tanya Hotel, sewage pumping stations, fishing jetty, Baina powerhouse project, multipurpose parking facility at the municipal garage, Vasco fire station, Baina fish market, chief officer’s bungalow, cemetery and kabrastan.
