With Health authorities bracing to set up a Covid casualty and hospital at the old Hospicio building, vaccination has returned at the Margao Urban Health Centre premises on Monday.
A huge queue of persons was witnessed outside the Margao urban health centre waiting for their turn to take the Covid jab. Many of them were standing in the scorching sun without any makeshift shelter outside the premises.
The health officials tried to accommodate the people in the garage, but the rush was such that people were standing in a queue in the hot sun. Given that the Margao urban health centre is now going to be a permanent vaccination centre, citizens told The Goan that the district authorities must take cognizance of the plight of the people standing in the hot sun and get the place covered with a pandal.
In fact, the Margo UHC’s premises outside was covered with a waterproof pandal over the last couple of months, sanctioned by the district authorities, before the makeshift pandal was lifted away recently after the vacant old Hospicio building was designated for Covid vaccination.
Urban health centre officials, meanwhile, informed that they intend to put to use the hall inside the premise to accommodate the growing number of people coming for vaccination till a pandal is put up outside the centre.
A citizen told The Goan that with vaccination now expected to continue for a few more months with the booster dose being administered by the health services, an early erection of the pandal will go a long way in protecting the people from the scorching sun.
Health Director Dr Ira Almeida pointed out that the Covid vaccination has been shifted from the old Hospicio building to the Margao urban health centre as the authorities are bracing up to convert the old Hospicio building into a Covid casualty and a hospital.
“We are putting the infrastructure and logistics in place at the old Hospicio building for Covid facility since it has been decided to put the facility in operation when 50 per cent of the Covid facility at the GMC, Bambolim is put to use”, she added.
180 inoculated with booster dose in Margao on first day
MARGAO:
Around 180 persons have been administered the booster dose in Margao on the day of the commencement of the exercise.
Sources informed that the majority of the persons administered the booster dose are senior citizens with co-morbidities, besides front line workers.
