Mainuddin Pathan of New Vaddem, Vasco, has been sentenced to ten years’ rigorous imprisonment for sexual exploitation and abuse.
In 2019, Vasco police arrested Pathan following a complaint by a young woman from Delhi. She had come to Goa for better prospects and was initially offered shelter by Pathan, but he later exploited and abused her, forcing her into prostitution.
She eventually escaped and sought help from Vasco police. A case was registered, and with NGO support, she was reunited with her family. Public prosecutor Anna Mendonca appeared for the State.
