PANAJI: Goa Police driver, Prasanna Akhadkar, was arrested by Vasco police in connection with a cheque bounce case. Akhadkar, 32, a resident of Navta, Cortalim, had been convicted under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The Margao Sessions Court had ordered him to pay a compensation of Rs 3,20,000, but Akhadkar failed to do so. As a result, he was sentenced to one year of simple imprisonment.

A non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued for his arrest after Akhadkar failed to attend the court proceedings for his appeal against the conviction. The court directed Vasco police to arrest him and present him before the court by 27th January.

Akadkar, who was working as a driver for the Goa Police and posted at the Maina Curtorim Police Station, was arrested and taken into custody by the Vasco police for further legal action.
