The prime minister laid the foundation stone/dedicated/inaugurated the 554 Railway Stations under the Amrith Bharat Station Scheme and 1500 Road Over Bridges/Underpasses across the country including various railway projects worth Rs 1192.86 crore over South Western Railway (SWR) through video conferencing.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme Phase-II, 34 stations across SWR i.e. 28 stations in Karnataka, 2 in Andhra Pradesh, 2 in Tamil Nadu and 2 in Goa are planned to be revamped and modernised at a combined cost of Rs. 801.95 crore.
The revamped stations will undergo a stunning makeover and be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, along with multi-modal connectivity to enhance accessibility and connectivity for passengers.
This will boost trade, commerce, and economic activities in the region, while also transforming these railway stations into 'City centres' and urban icons, giving a new identity to the towns and cities they serve. In the Amrit Kaal, these upgraded stations will promote ease of travel and significantly enhance passenger satisfaction.
ROBs, RUBs IN STATE
The prime minister also dedicated 15 Road Under Bridges (RUBs) and 7 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) in SWR, constructed at a cost of Rs 112.27 crores. He also laid the foundation stone for constructing 7 ROBs & 1 RUB at a cost of Rs 278.64 crores.
To ensure safety and facilitate smooth transit for both rail and road traffic, ROBs and RUBs have been constructed across various locations in South Western Railway jurisdiction.
These include three ROBs and two RUBs in the State.
The projects which were dedicated were the ROB 193 Kalem-Sanvordem (Rs 6 crore), ROB 188 B Kalem Yard (Rs 4.6 crore), RUB 207 A Kalem - Sanvordem (Rs 2.5 crore) and RUB227 A Chandor – Sao Jose de Areal (Rs 1.5 crore).
In addition, the foundation stone was laid for the ROB 19 Londa–Vasco Da Gama (Rs 41.17 crore).
These ROBs and RUBs will significantly contribute to improving safety on railway tracks and accelerate infrastructure development in the region.
A ROB is a structure built to allow a road to pass over another road or railway track, preventing intersection and improving traffic flow. It typically consists of elevated ramps, supporting pillars, and a bridge deck.
Conversely, a RUB involves constructing a road or pathway beneath existing railway tracks. This design separates road and rail traffic levels, reducing the chances of accidents and improving overall traffic management.
Both ROBs and RUBs aim to streamline traffic movement, enhance safety, and minimize disruptions caused by railway crossings, contributing to efficient urban infrastructure development.
