Chairman says will conduct fire audit in Verna industrial estate
MARGAO
Chairman of Goa Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has said the IDC will issue notice to the servicing company for parking the vehicles on the road and in IDC property without permission.
Admitting that the fire incident could have ended in a major disaster if the fire had to spread to the adjoining industrial units, Reginaldo said the IDC will go for a fire audit in the Verna Industrial Estate by issuing notices to the units.
The IDC chairman, who visited the Verna IDC after the fire incident, told the media that the fire has engulfed the vehicles parked on the road and IDC land. “The IDC had in the past issued letters to the company to remove the vehicles since they are on the road and open space belonging to the IDC,” he said.
To a question, Reginaldo said he has told the IDC officials to try and identify the source of fire, whether it has come from any scrapyard operating in the area.
Saying the IDC will issue notice to the company for parking the accident/ servicing vehicles on the roadside and in the open space in the IDC land, Reginaldo said strict action will be initiated against the company for parking the vehicles on the road. “We are now compelled to take action against all the units dumping their material on the roads and open spaces in the industrial estates,” he added.
Asked whether the industrial units have adopted fire safety standards in their units, he said, “any unit violating the fire safety standards will land in trouble. The IDC will order a fire audit in the industrial estate,” he added.
