The State government has constituted district-level committees to address the grievances of medical professionals in case of violence.
Under Secretary Health Dr Pooja Madkaikar through a notification announced the constitution of North and South Goa district committees under the chairmanship of district collectors.
“The Government is pleased to constitute committees for the North Goa and South Goa districts for the redressal of grievances in cases of violence or incitement of violence against Medicare service personnel, or in cases of damage or loss to the property of Medicare service institutions,” the notification stated.
The seven-member committee comprises of Under Secretary Home, Health, Director of Prosecution, Director Health Services, Dean Goa Medical College and Hospital Medical Superintendent of North and South Goa district hospital.
In the backdrop of the rape-murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata in August last year, Goa was the first State to set up a task force committee dedicated to the safety of medical professionals, in line with the Supreme Court directions. The task force is headed by the Goa Medical College and Hospital Dean.
Meanwhile, the government has put in place a 15-member Advisory Committee under Secretary Health to advise the authority to discharge its functions with regards to transplantation of human organs and tissues. The committee will be in place for two years.
“In pursuance to Section 13 A of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994, read with Rule 30 of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Rules, 2014, the Government is pleased to constitute the Advisory Committee to aid and advise the Appropriate Authority to discharge its functions, for a period of 2 years from the date of issue of the notification,” the notification stated.
