South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes has decided to take up cudgels for the 1,000 ex-servicemen from Goa who have complained that they have been denied the post retirement facilities because of the ex-servicemen who have settled in the State.

At the weekly interaction with the people of South Goa at the district Collectorate, the MP gave a patient hearing to a delegation of the ex-servicemen from Goa, promising them to take up their issue at the highest level. “There are around 850-1,000 ex-servicemen from Goa, who came to me with their prayers and objection that Goan ex-servicemen do not get the facilities since they are being taken by ex-servicemen from outside the State, but residing in Goa. This is a very serious issue and need redressal,” he said.

He added: “We have in Goa very few ex-servicemen and if they do not get the desired benefits, it will amount to injustice. I will also request Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao to take up the case with the State government.”

Meanwhile, the South Goa MP said he has come across cases wherein attempts are being made to encroach on the properties of Niz Goemkars at the behest of the powers that be in connivance of the police and district authorities. “If these cases turn out true, I will take them up at the highest level,” he warned.

A delegation of Chinchinim villagers also called on the South Goa MP with the plea to resolve the road bypass issue on the NH66. The delegation impressed upon the MP that if the National Highway have their way, people owning land on either side of the Highway will not be able to use the land in the future.
