The heap of garbage, which was dumped in the khazan land at Morombi-O-Pequeno, Merces, was set afire by some unknown persons apparently to cover the tracks of the violator.
The fire was possibly set on Thursday night and it came to light only on Friday morning when the GCZMA inspection of the khazan was slated.
In this connection, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has filed a complaint with the GSPCB to act in the matter.
Condemning the act of setting fire to the waste, RGP’s spokesperson Ajay Kholkar said that the act was supposedly done to hide the identity of the violator who dumped the garbage.
“This act clearly shows that the violator is trying to hide his tracks but RGP will file complain as the fire has caused pollution in the area,” Kholkar said.
Later, in the evening, RGP emailed its complaint to the GSPCB with photos of the heap of garbage and the garbage reduced to ashes after it was set afire.
