Despite official assurances of sufficient water supply until the onset of the monsoon, several parts of Mapusa faced a dry spell on Monday evening, leaving residents without their usual quota of drinking water.

Areas including Peddem, Shetya-vaddo, Duler and surrounding localities experienced a sudden disruption in tap water supply due to a malfunctioning valve that controls water flow. “The valve which controls the release of water has malfunctioned. We have given it for repairs and expect it to be repaired by tomorrow morning,” said Triptesh Sirsat, Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD).

While authorities have promised to restore supply by Tuesday, residents remain sceptical and concerned. “At this age of technology, can’t they replace the valve with another one until the original piece is repaired?” questioned Reshma Naik, a resident of Duler, expressing the growing frustration among locals.

Meanwhile, until repairs are completed, citizens in the affected areas are expected to manage without regular access to drinking water, relying on stored reserves or alternative sources.
