Students at the Government Primary School in Barajan-Usgao faced difficulties on Saturday as the school premises was waterlogged due to continuous rains.

Parents were upset over the accumulation of water in the school premises and reported the matter to local panch Manisha Usgaonkar.

Usgaonkar visited the school to take stock of the situation and threatened to sit outside the school along with students in protest, if the issue was not resolved immediately. The PWD later took up the necessary repair work.

In all, 90 students attend classes at the government primary school at Barajan-Usgao.

According to sources, rainwater from the main road has been flowing through the entrance of the school premises since the last three to four years.

Due to heavy rains on Saturday morning, the school premises was waterlogged and students were forced to walk in the water to enter the school.

“Schoolchildren are suffering during monsoons since the last few years as dirty water from the gutter and road is flowing into the school premises,” said Usgaonkar.

“The government should pay attention to improve the infrastructure of this primary school.”

A few days ago, Usgaonkar had threatened to plant trees in potholes if they were not covered. Within a few hours, the PWD started filling the potholes.
