PANAJI: The Saras 2025 festival, set to be held from March 6-16 at Daryasangham, Kala Academy, will offer Kunbi fabric enthusiasts an opportunity to try their hand at making their own towels, scarves, or handkerchiefs as souvenirs.
The Rural Development Agency will showcase a Kunbi handloom machine at the ten day long festival, allowing visitors to experience the traditional weaving process firsthand.
Addressing a press conference, Rural Development Minister Govind Gaude said that Kunbi fabric, known for being lightweight and breathable, is ideal for Goa’s humid climate and remains a popular choice among locals.
"With a special focus on promoting Goan culture and products, this year’s Saras festival is set to be even bigger and more engaging than previous editions," he said.
This year, the event will showcase a diverse range of products and talent, featuring over 550 stalls with 120 stalls reserved for Northern Indian artists and vendors, and 205 stalls dedicated to Goan self-help groups.
Gaude also said “this festival aims to promote Goan culture and provide a platform for local artisans, hand-crafters, and artists to gain exposure and showcase their work”.
The Saras festival also provides an important market for local handmade products, supported by Goa’s thriving tourism industry, which attracts both domestic and international visitors.
In celebration of International Women's Day on March 8, CM Sawant will distribute nearly 10 electric bikes to Goan women on March 6 to promote their independence and empowerment
