From Rs 1 crore to Rs 3 crore and to ‘NOTHING’, Amit Naik digs his own grave
PANAJI: Absconding land fraudster Suleman Siddique allegedly duped his accomplice -- now-dismissed IRB constable Amit Naik after promising him Rs 3 crore to facilitate his escape from the lockup in Crime Branch, Ribandar.
Currently in police custody, Naik has reportedly confessed to Old Goa police that Suleman initially offered Rs 1 crore while in SIT custody but later raised it to Rs 3 crore, an offer Naik couldn't resist.
But Suleman's condition was that the amount would be handed over only after reaching Karnataka.
The duo, after discreetly leaving Crime Branch on Friday, stopped at Palolem before crossing into Karnataka. Suleman then asked Naik to take him to Karwar where Hazrat Ali, another accused now in Goa Police custody, joined them.
At Karwar, Suleman convinced Naik to abandon his motorcycle and travel in a car with him and Ali. The plan, however, took a dramatic turn when Suleman exited the vehicle near a Hubli bus stand and vanished. Shortly after, Ali forced Naik to leave the car as well.
Left stranded by his co-conspirators, Naik ultimately decided to surrender to the local police.
