Congress candidate for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat Capt Viriato Fernandes on Thursday promised that he would dedicate his life to serve the people and for Goa if elected to Parliament in the May 7 polls.
He also assured the people that he would raise his voice in Parliament and tell Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respect the federal structure of the Constitution of India and stop interfering in the affairs of the states.
Election campaign of the Congress candidate for the South Goa seat gained momentum on Thursday after Capt Viriato with party leaders in tow covered the Assembly segments of Canacona, Velim and Cuncolim by holding corner meetings with party rank and file.
“I want to make a promise. A promise from a soldier to the people of Goa that I will fully dedicate my life to the people and Goa. This is a promise from a soldier,” he said, while addressing a corner meeting at Chinchinim village in Velim constituency attended by Party president Amit Patkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, MLA Altone D’Costa, district Congress president Savio D’Silva and others.
The Captain appealed to the people to come out of their houses on May 7 and to cast their vote in favour of the INDIA bloc candidate.
Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao has said the Congress has given a good and clean candidate to the people of South Goa and appealed to the people to elect Capt Viriato with a thumping majority.
